For pharmacy owners
If you are rural, some of this is already funded.
Nine Commonwealth programs run through the Pharmacy Programs Administrator, and most owners we speak to are claiming none of them. Whether you qualify turns on your Modified Monash number — and the difference between MM2 and MM3 is the difference between claiming nothing and claiming most of the list.
What is on the table
| Program | What it does for a roster | Ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| Intern Incentive Allowance | Take on an intern in MM3–MM7 | $10,000 |
| IIARP Extension | Keep that intern on as a registered pharmacist for twelve months, MM5–MM7 | $20,000 |
| Rural CPE Allowance | Funds a relief locum’s travel and accommodation while your pharmacist is at CPD | $2,000 |
| Student Placement Allowance | Paid per student placement | $3,000 |
| Rural Intern Training Allowance | Per financial year | $1,500 |
An intern taken on in a small rural town and retained for a year afterwards can attract up to $30,000 across the two intern programs. That is a real argument for growing your own rather than waiting for a registered pharmacist to appear.
Figures from the Pharmacy Programs Administrator. Eligibility, claim windows and evidence requirements differ program to program — several have hard deadlines that make a late claim unrecoverable.
